Coronavirus boosts demand for Elyria-based Invacare’s oxygen products and beds

WASHINGTON, D.C. - As other Northeast Ohio businesses lay off workers during the coronavirus pandemic, Elyria-based medical equipment provider Invacare Corporation is adding shifts to satisfy a huge demand for the oxygen concentrators and medical beds it produces.

Because of the epidemic, orders are four to eight times higher than usual for the company’s specialized beds, which sell for $3,000 to $4,000 each, and its plug-in devices that collect oxygen from the air and deliver it to patients in a concentrated form, which cost around $1,000, says Invacare CEO Matt Monaghan. He’s trying to quickly ramp up production.
